Gingivitis is unfortunately a common oral condition that can evolve into a serious infection that ultimately leads to tooth loss.
It is caused when you don’t brush or floss well enough, all the bacteria hangs out along the gum line & creeps below the edges of the gum. Within a week of not brushing & flossing properly, you will see swelling & redness on your gums. Some are more prone due to genetic condition but IT CAN BE PREVENTED.
The major cause of gum disease is PLAQUE BIOFILM. Plaque is the white sticky layer that you can easily brush off. If you miss brushing any area of teeth ,it can calcify which is known as TARTAR. Tartar can’t be removed at home. It needs professional cleaning at dental clinic.
TIPS TO PRACTICE GOOD DENTAL CARE AT HOME :
1. You really need to commit brushing at least two times a day, at least 2 minutes each time.
2. Investing in electric tooth brush can help you tremendously.
3. Your brush needs to make an angle of 45 degree with the gums so that it sweeps off the plaque layer from beneath the gums too.
4. Brushing the outer surface, inner surface & chewing surface of the tooth properly.
5. Wrapping your floss tightly in C shape around each tooth, sliding up & down to clean each side of the tooth.
6. If you have problem flossing your teeth , either you dont know the technique or dexterity issues, don’t worry , you can use inter dental aids like Proxa brush & water flosses.
7. Routine dental cleanup.
8. Rinse your mouth after every meal.
9. Swish your mouth with leukewarm water & salt. It reduces bacterial load in your mouth.
10. Stop deliterious habit such as smoking. It causes inflammation of the gums.
11. Always use soft or extra soft bristles tooth brush & discard it every 3 months.
